Zak Pay Merchant

Delete your account

How to request deletion of your Zak Pay Merchant account and the data held with it.

This page explains how to have your Zak Pay Merchant account closed and your personal data deleted. You can make the request here whether or not you still have the app installed — you do not need to reinstall it or sign in to this page.

Let your balance clear to R0 first. We cannot close an account that still holds funds or has a payout in progress. Your wallet balance is paid out automatically to your registered bank account at the end of each day, so there is usually nothing you need to do — simply wait for that day’s automatic payout to settle and confirm your balance shows R0 before making the request. If your balance is not clearing, or you cannot access the app to check it, say so in your request and we will help you recover the funds before proceeding.

How to request deletion

  1. Email support@zakpay.co.za with the subject line “Account deletion request”.
  2. Include the mobile number registered to the account and your registered business or trading name, so we can locate it.
  3. We will contact you on that registered number to confirm the request is genuine. We will never ask you for your password, PIN or a one-time PIN.
  4. Once confirmed, we close the account and begin deletion. We will email you when it is done.

Request account deletion

We confirm receipt within 5 business days and complete deletion within 30 days of confirming your identity.

If you are an employee, not the business owner

Employee profiles belong to the business that created them. Ask the account owner to remove you from the team in the app. If the business no longer exists or will not act, email us at the address above and we will assist.

What is deleted

When your request is completed, we delete:

Your account is closed immediately on confirmation and can no longer be signed into. Deletion of the underlying records follows within the period stated above.

What we must keep, and why

Zak Pay Merchant is offered under a wholesale reseller arrangement with our regulated acquiring partner, EFT Corp Technologies (Pty) Ltd and EFT Payment Solutions (Pty) Ltd (together, “EFT Corporation”), a licensed System Operator under the National Payment System Act 78 of 1998 and a Sponsored Payment Facilitator. South African law requires certain records to be retained even after an account is closed, and we are not permitted to delete them on request. These records are retained in restricted storage, are not used for any other purpose, and are deleted once the retention period expires.

Our Privacy Policy sets out our data retention practices in full, along with your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Deleting the app is not the same as deleting your account

Uninstalling the Zak Pay Merchant app removes it from your device but leaves your account and its data intact. To have the account itself deleted, use the request process above.
